Exploring the shifting dynamics of the unique human-animal system between Sami herders and their reindeers in Finnmark, northern Norway. Biannual reindeer migrations – the cornerstone of Arctic pastoralism– have been impacted by land ownership struggles, climate change, and technological innovation such as snowmobiles and GPS tracking. The Sami remain remarkably adaptive in upholding their cultural identity and livelihoods as herders, yet a lack of qualitative information on changes to migration routes has resulted in an uncertain future for reindeer herding.
